Any undefined terms used in this Privacy Policy shall refer to areas of this website with the same name. Your use of this site is also subject to the Terms of Use posted on this site. The aim of Earlylearner.net is to serve as a resource for educators and to provide a dynamic environment in which educators can share ideas and document a student's growth and development in an individualized way. This website is only intended for use by parents or guardians and teachers, schools and/or school districts (collectively, "Schools"), and is not intended for use by the student. There are three levels of access on the site, each of which requires us to gather different kinds of information.
As a guest, you may take a tour of the website, as well as read information on the different applications available on the site. This requires neither registration nor log in, and guests are not asked for any personal information.
As a registered member, you may, among other things, create and edit a Portfolio for a student, invite guests (i.e., parents) to share this Portfolio, and post questions in any of our Forums. In order to provide you with customized, personalized information, you are asked for some specific information about yourself and the student. To become a registered member, you will need to supply your name and email address. You will also need to choose a username and password. In some cases, an administrator may register a teacher and in doing so, may or may not supply the teacher's email address (it's optional), as well as select the username and password on behalf of the teacher. The username you select when you register may not be changed without contacting Pearson Education's customer support department. Registered members may update their password and email address at any time. Registered members may also elect to permanently terminate their registration by calling Pearson Education at (800) 874-0914 or sending an email to customersupport@earlylearner.net. Upon actual receipt of such notice, all Portfolios, assesments, recommended Activities and Tips, Journal entries, and other personal information associated with you and your student will promptly be removed from the system. However, messages posted to in the Forum areas (which include your username) are property of Pearson Education, and will not be removed if or when you elect to terminate your registration. If you elect to permanently terminate your registration, it is important that you contact Pearson Education - if your registration terminates as a result of expiration and you never notify Pearson Education of your desire to permanently terminate your registration, this site will continue to maintain your information so that you won't have to re-enter all such information upon your return to this site or upon your re-registration.
Only registered members can create a student's Portfolio. Once you do so, you can fill out a student's developmental assessments, read and write in the student's growth Journal, access the student's recommended Activity Guide, and see an associated Growth Map of the student's development. You may also invite guests to share this Portfolio; however, if you are a teacher, school or school district, you may only invite parents or legal guardians of a student as invited guests to share in a student's Portfolio (unless you get express written consent of the parents/legal guardians to do otherwise). To create a Portfolio for a student, you need to supply the student's name, birth date, and gender (this information is used to personalize the content of the site). In addition, if you are registering as a teacher or a school, you also have the OPTION of supplying the following information: the student's primary language, ethnicity and class level, as well as notating whether the student participates in an Individualized Education Program (IEP). Such optional information would be used solely to create aggregated non-personalized outcome group progress reports that may be desired by a school administrator or a school district. You may at any time remove from the system any Portfolio that you create. If you do so, all assessments, recommendations, journal entries, and other personal information associated with such Portfolios will simultaneously be removed.
As an invited guest, you can view, but not create, delete or add changes to, a student's Portfolio. To become an invited guest, you need an invitation from a registered member who has already created a Portfolio. You will also need to register yourself in order to protect the security of the information you will have access to. You will need to supply your name and email address. You will also need to choose a username and password. The username you select when you register may not be changed without contacting Pearson Education's customer support department. Invited guests may update their password and email address at any time.
We will take appropriate, commercially reasonable steps to keep all personal information about you and any student confidential. We will not share any personal information about you or any student with any third party, except in the following circumstances: (a) in response to subpoenas, court orders or legal process, to the extent permitted and as restricted by law; (b) when disclosure is required to maintain the security and integrity of this site, or to protect any user's security or the security of other persons, consistent with applicable laws; or (c) when disclosure is directed by the registered member who has inputted the personal information. When you conduct a transaction through this site, you are providing transaction information to Pearson Education's third party suppliers (such as transaction processors and financial institutions) who will use the information solely for the purpose of the transaction. The following information is considered "personal" in nature: (a) your name, (b) your email address, (c) any student's name, (d) and any direct association between the student's name and any optional information supplied by the registered member regarding such student during the creation of a Portfolio. Please keep in mind that if you are a teacher or an administrator, any personal information provided by you about yourself and your students will be accessible by your school and/or school district. Also note that any information about a student in a Portfolio may be viewed by an invited guest of the registered member. Non-personal information and any resulting data from the use of this site may be aggregated for statistical use by us, or the teacher, school or school district, as the case may be, and shared with any third party.
This site uses industry standard Secure Sockets Language (SSL) encryption to protect user information and also uses a secure connection to our servers, which are protected by firewalls to prevent unauthorized break-ins. Unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet is guaranteed completely secure. Given the inherent operation and structure of the Internet, all transmissions are done at your own risk.
The use of cookies is common in the Internet industry. Cookies are small text files that a website transfers to your computer's browser. Cookie technology tells the website non-personally identifiable information, but does identify your computer, browser and Internet specifications.
